Karthik Subbaraj Accused Of Plagiarism In Putham Pudhu Kaalai?

By Binged Bureau - Oct 17, 2020 @ 02:10 pm

Amazon Prime Video‘s latest anthology film titled Putham Pudhu Kaalai released recently on the platform. The film already created a huge buzz among the audience since it’s announcement and now the film is garnering decent reviews. But all doesn’t seem well for the film.

Ajayan Bala, a famous writer, claimed that Putham Pudhu Kaalai’s last segment’s short film titled ‘Miracle’ which has been directed by Karthik Subbaraj has been copied from his work titled ‘Sachin Cricket Club’ which was released on YouTube. He further explained that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the short film got delayed but after the post production work was completed, it was published on YouTube.

Bala said that both the story had striking similarities barring only a few changes. According to him, his film contained 10 characters and was set during the day but and Putham Pudhu Kaalai’s ‘Miracle’ contained only two characters and was set entirely during the night.

Bala added that “Apart from that, the crux of the story of that greediness will lead to more loss, doing a wrong deed for the need of money will lead to losing the money in hand and the climax portion of revealing that the money is fake is all same as my story”.

He further added that the actor Bobby Simha is his great friend and the two have known each other’s work from the past 12 years. While he thought that a legal way was not the solution, he added that why there is a need for copying someone else’s work? Is originality isn’t a thing anymore? Bala further said that are there shortages of stories that one is copying the work of a guy who is struggling to make a film for twenty years.

While the case of plagiarism isn’t new in Indian cinema but infact when it is visible to everyone, and comes out in the open, it surely becomes an issue to ponder upon.
