Karthik Subbaraj To Make Kollywood OTT History With Mahaan!

Kollywood’s most anticipated film of the year, ‘Mahaan‘, will drop directly for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, next week. This will be the first time that the Tamil superstar, Vikram, and his son, the up and coming actor, Dhruv, will be leading a film together. It will also be their first time starring in a direct-to-OTT feature as well. However, Karthik Subbaraj will be making Kollywood history when ‘Mahaan’ drops on the aforementioned OTT platform in 6 days – by being the first Tamil director to have 4 of his projects released directly for streaming, back-to-back.

‘Putham Puthu Kaalai’, ‘Jagame Thandiram’, ‘Navarasa’ and now, ‘Mahaan’. While technically, ‘Mahaan’ will only be the second Karthik Subbaraj back-to-back directorial to release directly for streaming – he also released two short films as part of two separate anthologies. The first one is called ‘Miracle’ as part of the anthology film, ‘Putham Puthu Kaalai’, while the second short story is titled ‘Peace’ which is a part of the anthology web series, ‘Navarasa’. Still, ‘Mahaan’ will be his fourth project to release directly for streaming and once it premieres on Amazon Prime Video; it will make him the first director to release four Tamil projects directly for streaming. ‘Putham Puthi Kaalai’ is available for streaming, while ‘Navarasa’ and ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ can be streamed on Netflix.

Karthik Subbaraj may be young, but he is already a celebrated South-Indian director at 38 years old. His first two films ‘Pizza’ and ‘Jigarthanda’ are brilliant and made him a successful household name overnight. He has gone on to make brilliant films with various Tamil superstars including Rajnikanth, Dhanush, Vijay Sethupathi, Prabhu Deva, S.J. Surya, GVM, Bobby Simha and many more. With ‘Mahaan’, he will finally get the chance to work with Vikram and his son, Dhruv as well.

‘Mahaan’ will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 10th 2022. Check out the trailer for this highly anticipated action-thriller below:
