Kartik Aryan’s upcoming movie Freddy is in great hype among fans. It also topped the IMDB List of most anticipated movies in India a few days back. But Twitter users point out the movie’s uncanny similarities to a 1996 Hollywood film with the name of ‘The Dentist’.
Kartik’s ‘Freddy‘ tells the story of a very shy, introverted and socially awkward dentist who is obsessed with a girl played by Alaya Furniturewala. The teaser and glimpses from the Shashanko Ghosh directorial clearly shows that Freddy is actually a killer in the disguise of that introverted dentist.
The 1996 movie ‘The Dentist’ tells a very similar story. It is about Dr. Alan Feinstone who is a rich and successful dentist but he is obsessed with perfection. He wants perfection in everything and in everyone. When nobody is able to meet up to his expectations, Dr. Alan commits something that he should have never done, murder. Directed by Brian Yuzna, The Dentist talks about how betrayal of his wife and other grave situations turn the doctor into a killer.
There are similarities of course, but we cannot blame the makers for ripping off from a Hollywood yet. Even the trailer of the movie is not released till now. There is absolutely no guarantee of the film being a remake or even inspired. Even if it is, we will have to wait to see how the movie is executed. Binged will cover whether it is actually a remake or not after confirming with the release of the movie. For now, it is better to wait for the movie than to criticize for copy pasting Hollywood movies.
