SonyLIV has renewed the much-awaited Season 2 of spy series ‘Kathmandu Connection‘. This evening, the streamer launched the official teaser for ‘Kathmandu Connection’ Season 2, along with revealing the release date for the show. All episodes of ‘Kathmandu Connection’ Season 2 will premiere on SonyLIV on December 23, 2022.
While ‘Kathmandu Connection’ Season 1 focused on the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, Season 2 will center on the infamous 1999 hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight IC 841. For those who don’t know, in December 1999, flight IC 841 that took off from Kathmandu airport was hijacked mid-air enroute to Delhi, and was flown to Afghanistan. The flight was only allowed to return to India in exchange for the release of several high-profile terrorists lodged in Indian jails.
Interestingly, ‘Kathmandu Connection’ Season 2 will premiere on SonyLIV on the 23rd anniversary of the hijacking, which happened on December 23rd, 1999.
Just like the Bombay blasts, the genesis of this hijacking is in Kathmandu, Nepal, hence the title of the show. Aksha Pardasany returns in ‘Kathmandu Connection’ Season 2, to reprise her role of Shivani Bhatnagar, while Amit Sial returns as DCP Kaushik. Anshumaan Pushkar and Anurag Arora also return for ‘Kathmandu Connection’ Season 2. Prashant Narayan and Harleen Sethi are the new additions to the cast in the new season.
‘Kathmandu Connection’ Season 2 is written by Siddharth Mishra, and directed by Sachin Pathak. It is produced by Ajay G Rai under his banner, Jar Pictures.
The official synopsis of ‘Kathmandu Connection’ Season 2 reads, “It’s been 5 years, Shivani Bhatnagar (Aksha Pardasany) has been working for a London based media house. She chances upon some secret documents that are directly linked to the IC-814 hijack and a possible national security threat for India. Everything links back to Kathmandu this time as well. Shivani reaches Kathmandu and with the help of incarcerated Sunny Sharma (Anshumaan Pushkar), comes very close to exposing the actual conspiracy. The unexpected happens and thus begins the cat and mouse chase. Will Shivani be successful in unravelling the plan? Will Samarth Kaushik (Amit Sial) use Shivani as a bait this time as well?”
