Sonic The Hedgehog 3 has just grabbed the biggie. The new installment of the popular Sonic The Hedgehog movie series has cast A-lister Keanu Reeves in the much-talked-about role of Shadow The Hedgehog. Sonic The Hedgehog 3 release date in the theatres is slated for 20th December, 2024, to cash in on the Christmas holidays.
For those who don’t know, Shadow The Hedgehog is a popular character in the Sonic The Hedgehog video games franchise. The character was first introduced in the games in the 2001 release, Sonic Adventure 2. Shadow The Hedgehog has similar powers as Sonic The Hedgehog, but with a darker core. He is positioned as an antihero who will resort to any means to achieve his goals of protecting the world from danger. His antihero identity often pits him against Sonic.
Ben Schwartz returns to voice Sonic The Hedgehog, Idris Elba will reprise his role of Knuckles from the second film, Colleen O’Shaughnessey will reprise her role as Tails, while Jim Carrey returns as Dr. Robotnik. Director Jeff Fowler too returns to helm Sonic The Hedgehog 3, as he did for the first two movies in the franchise.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 will reportedly be inspired by the 2001 game, Sonic Adventure 2, the first time that black-hued Shadow The Hedgehog made an appearance in the video games.
