The gap between the commercial and art films in the Bengali film industry is getting lesser day by day. Films with a message are having a deeper impact on the mass. There are many movies made in the past few years which attracted the intellectual cinephile as well as the common moviegoer alike. Most movies are now presented with a slice-of-life realistic charm. Kedara is one of them.
‘Kedara’ had its theatrical release on the 1st of November in 2019. It was directed by Indraadip Dasgupta, one of the finest filmmakers of the industry.
The film tells the story of Narasingha, a ventriloquist who was once known to the people as Horbola, or the man with many voices. Once he used to have immense popularity among children but now he struggles to have his daily bread. He is considered to be a mad man and has only one friend who happens to be a junk dealer. Narasingha converses with imaginary people in his mind. One day the junk dealer offers him a huge majestic arm-chair and his life changes forever.
It is the debut film of Indraadip Dasgupta and he executes the story masterfully. Actor and filmmaker Koushik Ganguly plays the lead role and actors like Rudranil Ghosh, Bidipta Chakroborty, Indranil Roy play other important roles. The performances are truly awesome. The poet Srijato has written the story and Arijit Singh himself has composed the music for the film. The cinematography is handled by Subhankar Bhar.
