The lockdown in the state of Kerala may be lifted but we are still a long way away from seeing films releasing in theatres. With highly anticipated films ‘Cold Case‘, ‘Sara’s‘ and now ‘Malik’ releasing (or released in the former two films’ cases) directly on OTT platforms – more and more Malayalam films have started to take the direct-to-OTT release route. Especially with the South Indian film industry’s sudden rise in popularity. The most recent Malayalam movie set to join these aforementioned South Indian films is the road thriller, ‘Mission-C’.
Even though the lockdown has been lifted all over Kerala, the State still has containment zones all over, which makes it hard for people to move within certain parts of the South-Indian city. And the weekends have all-day curfews – starting from Friday night till Monday morning. In a situation such as this, it isn’t surprising that Malayalam film producers are slowly shifting their films’ theatrical release and making it into a digital ones.
‘Mission-C’ is a low budget film that released its trailer over a month ago. Small scale, it may be, in production but the trailer makes the film look quite big. This made the film appealing to theatres and it had a July release date – which had to be cancelled due to the current situation in Kerala. The film producers decided to release the movie directly onto an OTT platform and now we are waiting for the official announcement regarding the same. We expect a new trailer featuring a watermark logo of the new platform in which ‘Mission-C’ will premiere, to appear as part of the announcement, which will also have a release date. For now, we will have to wait and see.
Written and directed by Vinod Guruvayoor, this film will be a road thriller. A group of terrorists hijack a tourist bus, which will be chased down by a team of commandos who will try their best to save the hostages. With time slowly running out, the commando leader will be forced to make some tough calls throughout the film.
