The Diplomat’s second season features a new foe for U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler played by Keri Russell, but at least her husband is still alive to support her as she continues to negotiate the complex world of international politics.
After a bomb went off in the heart of London at the end of Season 1, a trailer for the upcoming episode, which premieres in October, finally tells viewers that Hal Wyler played by Rufus Sewell is still alive.
Netflix reports that in Season 2, Kate will delve further into the events leading up to the attack in London and the earlier attack on a British aircraft carrier off the coast of Iran, which she now knows originated from within the British government instead of a foreign foe.
She must navigate a troubled marriage, a complicated relationship with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a menacing visit from Janney’s vice president character while she pursues her goals.
Netflix also unveiled a few images alongside the official trailer from Season 2, which will premiere on October 31. Starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell as American diplomats in London trying to avert conflict, The Diplomat debuted on April 20, 2023, and became an instant hit.
Netflix claims that the series racked up over 57 million hours of viewing in its first weekend, debuting at number one on the Netflix Top 10 list. The Diplomat was given a second season renewal by Netflix on May 1, 2023, a mere ten days later.
Rory Kinnear, Ato Essandoh, and Ali Ahn co-star in Debora Cahn’s The Diplomat, which she also created and executive produced. Keri Russell, Alex Graves, and Janice Williams serve as executive producers.
