Kannada blockbuster hit ‘KGF Chapter 2‘ began streaming on Prime Video India on May 16, but as pay per view. The film hit digital a month after its theatrical release, which is quite understandable, considering that most films release on OTT after a 28-day theatrical window. Of course, releasing KGF 2 in the pay per view model (aka TVOD) caused a lot of heartburn to regular Prime Video subscribers, who questioned the fairness of it all.
But since this morning, those searching for KGF 2 on Prime Video are in for a shock. The Yash starrer has disappeared from Prime Video completely. It is not available to stream – neither in the Prime Video rental store, nor on regular subscription based streaming. This is quite surprising for a film that released on digital barely two weeks ago.
Another buzzy film that Prime Video released recently as pay per view is Ajay Devgn‘s Runway 34. In the case of that film, Prime Video has clearly announced from the start itself that Runway 34 will be available to stream for regular Prime Video subscribers from June 24 onwards at no extra charge.
This, however, is not the case with KGF Chapter 2. Prime Video has not conveyed any information at any point of time whatsoever, about when KGF 2 will be available to stream at no extra charge for Prime Video subscribers.
And now, KGF Chapter 2 has disappeared completely from the Prime Video library. It is not available on the rental store. KGF 2 does not come up in the search results on Prime Video. The film is simply gone from Prime Video, with no notice whatsoever!
This has led us to wonder whether there is some kind of dispute between Prime Video and the producers of KGF Chapter 2. Or has Prime Video withdrawn the title from its rental store, only to release it a bit later on subscription based streaming (aka SVOD)?
