KGF 2’s Day 1 Collection: What Do These Devastating Numbers Mean?

Yesterday marked the release date of insanely hyped KGF Chapter 2. The film was already anticipated to gross big numbers and so it did. According to the makers, the film grossed 134.5 Crores in India itself making it the biggest earner ever in the history of Kannada cinema.

This insane hype came bundled with North Indian box office where the film earned a whopping 53 crores which is the highest ever opening, even bigger than Hrithik Roshan’s War. The trade analysts are confident that it may very well surpass the record of RRR in the Hindi belt.

But these devastating numbers also say a lot about the taste of Indian moviegoers. A few years back, people thought that the era of insane heroic and over the top action films are over. But the fact is, that it isn’t. Our audience is still not evolved over sequences that may seem extremely unrealistic.

There are scenes in the film which if had been in Bollywood, the whole meme community would be making fun of it. A man barges into an office which is supposed to be the most secured place in India and it all seems fine. But even slightly over the top scenes become a subject of laughter. Thus it means that more than illogical cinema, the hate is against Bollywood.

Long story short, this mega-success has a lot of hidden meanings that the Hindi film industry must think and act upon.
