Killers of the Flower Moon Braces For A Bumpy Indian Box Office Ride

Legendary Hollywood filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s star-studded Western crime drama movie ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ was released in the US theatres last week on 20th October. In India though, the film is slated to be released this Friday on 27th October.

‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ opened with an impressive $44 million at the box office globally. However, in India, the movie is expected to face some stiff competition from its Indian counterparts. On the same day, that is, on 27th October, two Indian films namely the Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Tejas’ and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘12th Fail’ will also be released in theatres.

But the main box-office competitor for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ is going to be Lokesh Kanagraj’s action thriller movie ‘Leo’ starring Vijay, which hit the big screens last Friday. Despite rather mixed reviews, the movie has attracted audiences in big numbers grossing around Rs.140 crores globally and is still going strong. So, it looks like ‘Leo’ can still be a threat for the Indian box office prospects of the Hollywood biggie ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’. Nevertheless, it’s going to be an interesting clash. Moreover, another Hollywood film ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ will also be released on the same day.

Having said that, Martin Scorsese and the film’s stars, especially Leonardo Di Caprio and Robert De Nero, have a huge fan base in India. It has also received rave reviews from critics and currently holds 92% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. So, the film is still expected to perform well, especially in Tier-1 cities.

‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ has been adapted for the screen by Oscar-winning veteran screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Munich, Dune) and is based on David Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book of the same name. The film’s plot revolves around the mysterious serial killings of the members of the Osage tribe in the 1920s United States and the investigation by the FBI. It features powerhouse performers like Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Nero, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, and Lily Gladstone, amongst others.
