Just like every year, the Oscar awards were not untouched by controversies and their choice of award. Indian documentary film Writing With Fire lost in its category and the 12 times nominated The Power Of The Dog received only one award.
But there is a British short film that won in the category of Best Live Action Short Film. It is called The Long Goodbye and features only South Asian artists who happen to be British citizens. Directed by Aneil Karia this film features a Pakistani descent actor Riz Ahmed in the lead role. The film is about a Pakistani family living in Britain and the victim of racist terrorists who hate and terribly harm them for just being a Pakistani.
Apart from Riz Ahmed, the film packs Hussina Raja as Ameenah, Sudha Bhuchar, Javed Hashmi, Rish Shah, Nikita Chadha and a few more. The film is about the idea that South Asians dedicate their sweat and blood to the West but still they fail to get the sort of acceptance that they deserve.
It talks about them being stuck in a no man’s land where they do not remain an Indian and not even British. The film is available on YouTube and can be streamed for free.
