Noted filmmaker Anand Gandhi has expressed his views on the massive Kannada blockbuster ‘Kantara’. Kantara has broken many records and is one of the biggest box office hits and has surpassed KGF 2 in terms of collections.
But, it seems that the man behind Tumbbad is not happy with the comparison between Kantara and his film. Anand Gandhi is a filmmaker of great caliber and has directed short films like ‘Continuum’, ‘Right Here Right Now’ and a well acclaimed film like ‘Ship Of Theseus’. He acted as the creative director of ‘Tumbbad’ and Rahi Anil Barve directed the masterpiece.
Anand took it to Twitter to express his views on the film by saying that his idea behind ‘Tumbbad’ was to use the elements of horror as metaphors for toxic masculinity and narrowness. Meanwhile, Kantara actively celebrates these. Tumbbad was a very well made criticism on human greed but it was a disaster at the box office. Meanwhile, Kantara has unexpectedly surpassed records made by many big budget movies.
Some people are saying that it was the religious angle and patriarchy that made Kantara popular among the masses. Some on the other hand, vouch for the subjectivity of art and say that it is completely a director’s choice how a story should be told and a film should not be bound by political, religious or moral correctness and that the comparison is totally useless.
Filmmaker Vasan Bala has pointed out that ‘Tumbbad’ was actually Rahi Anil Barve’s idea and Anand’s tweeting it as ‘my idea behind Tumbbad’ is wrong.
