Deepak Adhikary a.k.a Dev has announced his new movie and also released the first look poster of it. The actor is being trolled for the look of him as the iconic character of Byomkesh Bakshy and fans are worried about what disaster is now cooking.
Byomkesh O Durga Rahasya is one of the most wonderful stories of Bakshy, popularly known as Satyanweshi. The novel has been adapted into television series multiple times but has not been adapted into a film so far. It is at the same time one of the most difficult-to-execute stories of Byomkesh, the detective.
With Dev taking up the project the audiences have already been divided in two parts. One congratulating the actor while the other incessantly trolling him for touching such a legendary character. Dev is definitely one of the most trusted actors and producers of the Bengali film industry but the problem is Bengali people are too much nostalgic with two characters, Feluda by Satyajit Ray and Byomkesh Bakshy by Saradindu Bandyopadhyay.
There is a saturation in the industry with these detective movies with each actor playing multiple detectives like Shawbor, Barada and of course Feluda and Byomkesh. Parambrata Chatopadhyay has played both Byomkesh and Feluda, Jishu Sengupta and Abir Chatterjee have played the roles of Byomkesh. The trend started with Satyajit Ray adapting ‘Chiriakhana’ with Uttam Kumar in the lead, even though the adaptation was not liked by the writer himself. There have been a tremendous number of films made on Byomkesh Bakshy since then and some of them are obviously liked by the audience. But this is being overdone now. Any actors of some prominence wants to or is being thrust upon him the role of Feluda and Byomkesh and it is clearly visible that with his bulky muscular looks, Dev does not really suit the character. The actor should focus therefore on original films and new unique stories instead of churning the old ones. The trolling is to some extent very well justified.
