Kollywood On A Roll! ‘Annaatthe’ Grosses 100 Crores In 2 Days!

The Kollywood Box Office is buzzing and how! After Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Doctor’ becoming the first Indian film post the second Covid wave to gross 100 crores, the Tamil industry has pulled off yet another feat! Rajinikanth’s Diwali release ‘Annaatthe’ that hit the screens on 4th November has created history at the box office. The film already made the record for the highest first day grosser yet in Tamil Nadu, grossing a whopping 34 crores on day 1, having beaten that of Vijay’s ‘Master‘. ‘Annaatthe’ has managed to hold the fort on the second day and achieve the impossible!

According to the opening day predictions for ‘Annaatthe’ in Tamil Nadu, the figures were close to an exorbitant 20-22 crores, though the film has surprised audiences and surpassed the numbers by a mile! The film’s first day worldwide collections are reportedly close to 70 crores, while those of the second day are over 40 crores! This takes the total to a massive 110 crores in just two days! That the 70-year old superstar has managed this unimaginable feat during these times, is nothing short of commendable. ‘Annaatthe’ has also managed to sell 1 million tickets on Bookmyshow, becoming the first film to do so post the second Covid wave.

At this rate, ‘Annaatthe’ is quite likely to cross the 200 crore mark within the first week run itself! The other Diwali release, Arya-Vishal starrer ‘Enemy’ however, has suffered a terrible blow due to the clash. ‘Annaatthe‘ premiered on around 800 screens in Tamil Nadu and over 1200 screens overseas, thereby setting a record of the maximum screens overseas for any Tamil film yet. Tamil Nadu theatres operating at full capacity has indeed been beneficial, since the Rajinikanth starrer has done a business of over 60 crores in Tamil Nadu itself. All in all, the festive season has fans thronging cinema halls, with special midnight shows and morning shows as early as 4 am!
