Korean Disaster Film Finally Becomes Free For Watch on Prime Video

One of the biggest star-studded Korean films of the year was ‘Emergency Declaration’. After its rent-per-view release on Prime Video a few months ago, the movie is finally available for free on the platform for subscribers. If well-acted disaster movies with exhilarating action sequences are your guilty pleasure, the movie should definitely be on the top of your weekend watch.

The plot of ‘Emergency Declaration’ is based on a real aviation disaster in which an airplane declared a high alert and demanded unconditional landing. The synopsis of the movie reads “While investigating a terrorist threat that goes online, Korean authorities discover that a suspect has recently boarded a flight bound for the United States. When a healthy passenger on the same plane suddenly dies, panic erupts both in flight and on the ground. With steadily decreasing fuel and international refusals to offer aid, the captain and crew take unprecedented emergency measures to save the lives of all on board.”

The movie stars big names like Song Kang-ho( Parasite), Lee Byung-hun(I Saw The Devil), Kim Nam-Gil(Memoir Of A Murderer, The Pirates), Im Si-wan(Hell Is Other People), Kim So-jin (The King) and Park Hae-Joon( The World Of The Married). Slated to release theatrically in January 2022, its release was delayed due to a new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was finally released theatrically in South Korea on August 3, 2022, and debuted at No.1 at the Korean box office.

While the basic storyline is what we have seen many times in various Hollywood movies, you can bet on the Korean industry to show the tried and tested plots in unassuming and non-stereotypical ways. The director of the thriller Han Jae-rim’s previous works like 2013’s ‘The Face Reader’ and 2017’s ‘The King’ is a testament to his immense talent and skillfulness of his craft.
