The duo of Kristen Stewart and Elle Fanning will be seen leading Mubi and The Match Factory’s forthcoming feature, Rosebushpruning. Helmed by Karim Aïnouz, the movie serves as an official adaptation of Marco Bellochio’s psychological flick, which came out nearly 50 years ago, titled ‘Fists in the Pocket’. Efthimis Filippou has penned down the film’s script. Kavac Films has acquired the project’s feature adaptation, and filming will commence in 2024.
Rosebushpruning revolves around a young epileptic man who wants to get rid of his dysfunctional family by plotting the murders of every family member. The upcoming Mubi flick functions as a dark satire of social and family values.
This is what Aïnouz said about the film in a recent interview:
“I’m excited to be collaborating with Efthimis Filippou to revisit this iconic work to create a contemporary parable about the death of the traditional patriarchal family — which I hope will be touching and provocative in equal measure.”
Apart from Kristen Stewart and Elle Fanning, the film also stars Josh O’Connor. The former was last seen in David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future, sharing the screen alongside Viggo Mortensen and Lea Seydoux. On the other hand, Fanning will return to the world of movies after three long years. Her last movie project was Netflix’s All the Bright Places, released in 2020. As for O’Connor, the British actor will be seen in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, starring alongside Zendaya and Mike Faist. It will come out in theatres worldwide on September 15.
