Kumail Nanjiani is playing an Indian immigrant to the U.S, Somen ‘Steve’ Banerjee in his next web series ‘Welcome To Chippendales‘. The Hulu original will premiere on the 22nd of November this year. It includes actors like Quentin Plair, Murray Bartlett, Spencer Boldman, Annaleigh Ashford, Adam Ray and Robin De Jesûs in other important roles.
The show is directed by Matt Shakman who has famously directed the ‘Fantastic Four’ series of Marvel. And it is created by Robert Siegel whose previous credits include ‘The Founder’ and ‘The Wrestler’.
The story follows the Indian immigrant Somen Banerjee who somehow becomes the founder of the male stripping empire which grows bigger and bigger and he gets to know how unglamorous the live entertainment world can get.
Kumail has made quite a name in India too with his role in Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’. This will help him in this venture. Indian audiences like to see Indian stories told by American producers and directors. This time too the story of a Indian immigrant will be something that the audiences will be able to relate to. Banerjee’s struggle to the top, his dilemmas, his relationships are going to be worth a watch.
Somen ‘Steve’ Banerjee was the founder of Chippendales, the largest male stripping empire in the world and he committed suicide just when he was about to be sentenced. There is already a movie made on him named ‘Tall, Dark And Handsome’.
