Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell Roped in For Apple TV+ Godzilla Series

Earlier this year in January, streaming giant Apple TV Plus had ordered a live-action series based on Godzilla and the Titans. Few months later, three times Emmy-nominated filmmaker Matt Shakman of ‘WandaVision’ fame, was attached to direct the ambitious venture. And in yet another exciting update, veteran Hollywood actor Kurt Russell (The Thing, Escape from New York, The Hateful Eight) has been roped in to make his small screen / OTT debut in Apple’s Godzilla series. Moreover, his son Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) has also been cast in an undisclosed role.

Kurt Russell was last seen in Marvel’s animated series ‘What If…?’ (Voice acting role) and prior to that in ‘Fast and Furious 9’. While Wyatt Russell recently featured in the true crime miniseries co-starring Andrew Garfield.

The yet-untitled MonsterVerse series would ostensibly carry forward the story arc set by the MonsterVerse franchise, that started with the 2014 reboot movie ‘Godzilla’, followed by ‘Kong: Skull Island’ (2017), ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ (2019), and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ (2021).

The Apple TV Plus Godzilla and the Titans series would purportedly revolve around a family’s journey to unearth its secrets and legacy which connects the family to a mysterious organization known as Monarch. Besides this, nothing much regarding the plot is currently known about the project.

After the creative involvement of a filmmaker of Matt Shakman’s calibre, roping in the father-son duo Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell seems to be a really good sign for franchise fans. Matt Shakman will direct the opening two episodes of the show.

In addition to the Apple TV Plus live-action MonsterVerse series, a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster monster movie ‘Godzilla vs Kong’ is also in the works. Recently, Dan Stevens was cast in the lead role for the film to be directed by Adam Wingard. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the Apple TV+ live-action Godzilla and the Titans series.
