Kurup’s Theatrical Release Does Not Rule Out Early OTT Release

If you guys missed it then know this, the Dulquer Salman starring crime thriller, ‘Kurup‘, is making its way to theatres next month (November). A movie that was supposed to release in April, back in 2020, we are finally getting a theatrical release after such a long wait. The filmmakers had to brush aside the advances of many OTT platforms and wait for theatres to finally open in Kerala – which it finally did. However, even after the film releases in theatres by mid-November, it does not mean that this film will not get a quick OTT release.

This release date announcement also means that the trailer is definitely coming out quite soon. Especially since the movie is only three weeks away from releasing in theatres, bar any unforeseen problems. Since the teaser itself has got over a few million views online, we expect the main promo video to get at least match that amount. With Sukumara Kurup (the film who it is based on) being India’s longest wanted criminal (missing since 1984), this film will surely grab the attention of non-Malayali filmgoers as well. And it is for this reason, the production company behind ‘Kurup’ will want to capitalize on its highly likely popularity and release the film for streaming, most likely right after it starts to generate profit.

‘Kurup’ will likely be a big hit, especially due to its cultural and historical significance of the film’s story within Kerala. With a multistar cast featuring Dulquer Salman, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sunny Wayne, Shine Tom Chacko, Sobhita Dhulipala and Maya Menon as well, we expect ‘Kurup’ to become the biggest Malayalam box office earner of 2021 (and possibly 2020 as well).

The highly anticipated film, ‘Kurup’ will premiere in theatres on November 12th 2021.
