L2: Empuraan Shines in Theaters but Struggles Online

L2: Empuraan Prithviraaj Sukumaran’s sequel to Lucifer starring superstar Mohanlal has emerged as the highest earning Malayalam movie. Fans were drawn to the narrative of Lucifer and wanted to see more of it. Mohanlal’s star power too was undeniable in drawing audiences. Overall the sequel was set for success and it did. But despite the overwhelming commercial success, where is the buzz for its OTT release?

Turns out despite the commercial success, the movie has left many fans disappointed. Fans have therefore chosen to not tune in during its OTT release. The lukewarm response from its OTT release reveals its drawbacks. While the fans were captivated with Lucifer the same can’t be said for L2. The story has lost its power following Lucifer and does not live up.

It has been subjected to trolling and memeing in social media. This proves how despite box office earnings and star power audiences have had enough of uninspired mindless action movies shoved down their throats. They have gotten tired of and expect new and bold things which they wrongfully expected for a sequel to Lucifer.

Few fans however are satisfied with the movie and are looking forward to the planned sequel. The question remains if Sukumaran can cook up somthing that lives up to the critical and commercial success of the first movie.
