Kangana Ranaut‘s ambitious ‘Thalaivii‘ is all set for a theatrical release on 10th September, Ganesh Chaturthi. Directed by A L Vijay, ‘Thalaivii’, a biopic on late actress-turned-politician Jayalalithaa, is a multi-lingual, pan-India film to be released simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film also stars Arvind Swamy, Madhoo and Bhagyashree in pivotal roles.
Although the makers finally announced the release date a few days back, much to the relief of theatre associations, there has been no buzz ever since. Besides a few posters of the film, mainly featuring Kangana’s varied looks, there has been no promotional activity whatsoever. At a time like this, when films and theatres are desperate for projects to click, this slack attitude can cost the film dearly. With just two weeks to the release date, there is no news of a single song release, teaser promos or any buzz for that matter. Thousands of fans are begging for some news regarding the film, but in vain, due to which the makers are facing some severe backlash these days from netizens regarding their lackadaisical approach.
Infact, with theatres reopening in Tamil Nadu and buzz that theaters in Maharashtra too, will open up by 1st September, this film had the edge over other theatrical releases till date, especially Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bell Bottom’, but it looks like the makers are throwing it away. With some aggressive marketing, the film could certainly overtake the business done by ‘Bell Bottom’ and give cinema owners a respite. The reopening of theatres all over the country, albeit with 50% occupancy, was a golden opportunity for the film to take credit for being the top theatre-reviver, but fans are unable to understand this lethargy and negligence.
To make matters worse for them, the Vijay Sethupathi starrer ‘Laabam’ is slated for its theatrical release on 9th September, just a day prior to ‘Thalaivii’. The makers of the former have smartly gained a day’s advantage to outplay the latter, which they will definitely capitalize on. They waited it out to announce their film’s release and can easily surpass the Kangana-starrer with some good promotional activities. Well, here’s hoping the makers of ‘Thalaivii’ pull up their socks and the next few days see some song releases or interesting promotional gimmicks to generate the necessary buzz.
