The Lady Superstar Nayanthara’s Mollywoood starrer Nizhal wrapped up its shoot recently, at the beginning of this month (December 2020). The shooting for the film was done in both Kerala and Karnataka. That will make this Malayalam feature, the first film to be shot in different parts of the country in the post Covid-19 lockdown “era”, with the entire cast and crew moving across the state together for the filming. This movie will also mark the feature length film directorial debut for this film’s director Appu N. Bhattathiri who had previously worked in the editorial and sound departments for various other movies.
Nizhal was being shot in various parts of Kochi and Alappuzha when Nayanthara joined the cast of the film. According to multiple sources, the leading man, Kunchacko Boban himself suggested to bring the Tamil-prominent superstar on board as he felt she would bring a certain gravitas to the film, despite having only worked with her once, that too in an item called song He Dil Deewana from the 2008 Malayalam box-office record-breaking film, Twenty:20. Nayanthara was then given the script to read and she was impressed by the story as well as the dual-important performances required from both her and Kunchacko Boban for their characters.
Kunchacko Boban also posted various pics during production thereby revealing the shooting locations of the previously mentioned Kochi and Alappuzha as well as Bengaluru and Hogenakkal, Karnataka. The film was shot in a quick 45 days and the production house has also dropped a first look poster featuring Kunchacko Boban.
As of now, much of the plot of the film is still under wraps. We know that Nizhal is supposed to be a mystery thriller film, with the lead actor Kunchacko Boban set to play a First Class Judicial Magistrate. The role of Nayanthara is yet to be disclosed and Master Izn Hash is the only other actor in this film besides the previously mentioned established stars. From the first look poster, we can come to two possible conclusions – either there is some supernatural enigmatic phenomenon happening in the film or the mask means that Kunchacko Boban’s character might either moonlight as or end up becoming a vigilante (of sorts).
