Laila Majnu: Fate Finally Unites Film (Laila) with Audience (Majnu)

The cult classic from 2018 i.e. Laila Majnu was re-released recently. We will come to the phenomena later on, but if you have watched the film, can you remember this monologue?

“Tujhe kya lagta hai ye hum kar rahe hain?

Hamari Kahani likhi hui hai. Aur ye duniya kya, duniya ke log kya?

Humkhud bhi usse badal nahi sakte.”

This is important because these lines tell us the destiny of not only Laila Majnu but also the fate of the film and the film lovers.

See, Laila was united not with Qais, but with Majnu. Qais had to become Majnu and ultimately die in order to unite with his Laila. Because the last stage of Ishq is Maut (death).

Similarly, a film called Laila Majnu was released in 2018.

Imtiaz Ali was “attracted” to the story.

He was also “attached” to it, that’s why we get its reference in Tamasha.

With all the “love” he “trusted” Sajid Ali with the film.

Seeing the end result, it is clear that Sajid Ali also “worshipped” this project.

And we know the “madness” that the cast, crew, editors, lyricist and composer put into making this film.

However the film “died” at the box office. Only a handful of people noticed the gem and those chosen ones must be the luckiest.

However, Ishq was to unite film lovers with the film as all the seven stages of Ishq were checked green.

Laila Majnu is a force to be reckoned with. It is not a token re-release but multiple shows of the film are running throughout the country. It is almost going housefull and people are crying over the scenes while smiling at the great songs.

All we can say is, Laila Majnu is getting an excellent response at the box office.

This again takes us back to the monologue by Qais that we mentioned in the film. This film was beyond the control of the filmmakers as well as the audiences.

If the film was Laila then the audiences were only Qais back in 2018. When we are finally mad or let’s say Majnu over this gem, we got to see this film in houseful theatres.
