This week as well, Netflix has unveiled the viewing charts of the top 10 most watched titles. While we always bring to you the performances of Indian titles, this week it was dull for any Indian movie. Laal Singh Chaddha is the only film that barged into the list and that too in the 10th position. So the views were highly insufficient and almost pathetic.
But still, this week’s chart is more important than many others put together.
Before we begin with the analysis, have a look at all the titles that made their way into the Top 10 most-watched non-English films globally.
If you notice closely then you would find something interesting. The top 5 titles have more than 10,000,000 hours of views which is the minimum for being called decent.
The highly recommended German film “All Quiet On Western Front” earned a crazy 30,000K+ hours of views while the highest from India in a week is by RRR which is around 18,000K+ hours of views.
Last week Taapsee Pannu’s Dobaaraa was on the third position by earning only 3,780,000 hours of views.
So what makes Indian films pop up in the list so frequently?
Is it their good performance? No, we don’t think so.
Good performance of movies is one aspect but the bigger aspect is “LACK OF COMPETITION”.
Last week was challenging as multiple non-English movies were in buzz but normally, Indian films pop up because there is hardly a decent competitor from the international market. Even after this, only two films have grabbed the first position so far.
This observation may be shattering for some people but it is what it is. Indian films have still a long way to go for leaving a decent impact.
