As if the reactions and reception to the ongoing season were not enough, the makers of Game of Thrones have to deal with the leaks coming from official platforms. Recently, the spoiler videos of the fourth episode of the eighth season came out via streaming site Prime.
Once the videos are out, it is difficult to contain them. If it was pirated stuff, legal action could be taken that could prevent others from doing the same, but what can the network do when leaks come from sources whom they have given the rights to stream?
However, currently, leaks don’t seem to be a bigger issue compared to the reception. While there are immediate high moments and huge anticipation leading to record-breaking numbers, the post-show reception and talk are getting weaker.
The much-hyped ‘The Long Night’ episode featuring the white walkers and The Night King has been rated one of the lowest in the show’s history which boasts of fantastic consistency throughout the seasons. The most common reason cited was how would the conclusion be exciting with the deadliest threat gone, and the simple way in which it was dealt with after all the hype in the previous seasons.
There are two more episodes left, here’s hoping there are no more leaks, and the writers and showrunners give us one last glimpse of the thrill ride it has been until now.
