Fans of auteur Martin Scorsese and maestro Frank Sinatra are in for a double treat. For, Martin Scorsese has just revealed that he’s got a biopic on the legendary Frank Sinatra in the works. Moreover, he’s also zeroed in on the actor he wants to play Sinatra in his biopic – it is none other than Scorsese’s longtime muse, Leonardo DiCaprio.
Along with Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank Sinatra, Martin Scorsese is also in talks with Jennifer Lawrence, who will star as iconic actress and Sinatra’s second wife, Ava Gardner. Frank Sinatra is one of the highest-selling musical artists in the world, along with being an illustrious singer, actor and entertainer. A biopic on the legend is an exciting proposition, though how Leonardo DiCaprio will suit the role remains to be seen.
As an aside, Martin Scorsese’s Frank Sinatra biopic will only go ahead if it gets the green signal from Frank Sinatra’s daughter Tina Sinatra, who controls her father’s estate. Reportedly, she hasn’t yet approved the film on her father’s life.
Martin Scorsese’s biopic on Frank Sinatra will be next in the slew of recent biopics, as Hollywood’s love affair with biopics continues unabated; more significantly, musical biopics of legendary musicians. In recent years, we’ve had several musical biopics from Hollywood. Rami Malek and Taron Egerton played Queen’s Freddie Mercury and Elton John in Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman respectively.
Austin Butler portrayed Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann‘s Elvis. Naomi Ackie played the iconic Whitney Houston in I Wanna Dance With Somebody, while Bradley Cooper portrayed Leonard Bernstein in Netflix’s Maestro.
Lastly, Daniel Radcliffe played Grammy winner ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. There’s also a Michael Jackson biopic coming up, helmed by Antoine Fuqua, with the iconic singer-songwriter’s nephew Jaafar Jackson portraying him in the movie, titled ‘Michael’.
