Warner Bros. has unveiled the official teaser for Leonardo DiCaprio’s next movie, One Battle After Another, a highly anticipated crime thriller written and directed by veteran filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. Other talents starring in the upcoming film include Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Benicio del Toro, and more.
One Battle After Another is Anderson’s first project since the critically acclaimed Licorice Pizza (2021). The film is set for a theatrical release on September 26. What makes this project particularly interesting is that it is Anderson’s most expensive movie yet ($140 million) and his first to be released in IMAX theatres.
The forthcoming Leonardo DiCaprio starrer takes inspiration from Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineyard. The film marks the second collaboration between Pynchon and Anderson after Inherent Vice (2014), which starred Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, and more.
The latest short teaser, released ahead of next week’s full trailer, presents a violent scene in which several characters—including a pregnant Taylor—fire weapons in a field while DiCaprio’s character watches, seemingly unconcerned. The teaser then shifts to the baby’s birth and a question about its destiny, culminating in a shot of the child, now grown, engaging in the same violent behaviour as her mother.
Legendary filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson is renowned for his masterful and breathtaking direction in films such as Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), There Will Be Blood (2007), The Master (2012), and Phantom Thread (2017).
