Lesson For Theaters: 98% Indians Prefer Big Screens Over OTT

In a recent report released by online ticketing firm BookMyShow, it was revealed that a staggering 98 percent of Indians believe that the true movie-watching experience can only be fully appreciated on the big screen. This data sheds light on the enduring love for theatres as a preferred mode of entertainment, even in the era of OTT platforms.

The report, titled “The CineFiles – Decoding India’s favorite entertainment choice – Movies on the Big Screen,” was based on a survey of 5,000 respondents across 650 cities in India. It brought forth several interesting findings about the Indian audience’s affinity for movie theatres.

The primary reason for this love affair with theatres is the immersive experience they offer. The report states that a substantial 74 percent of respondents opt to watch movies in theatres

In conclusion, the data from BookMyShow’s report clearly indicates that theatres hold a special place in the hearts of Indian moviegoers. But, how is OTT still dominating?

The answer is very very simple. Comfort and affordability.

However immersive and entertaining as the theatres may be, OTTs offer wide entertainment at a much lower price in the comfort of your homes. It is a lesson for multiplex chains to lower the ticket prices as public is still ready to go watch movies on the big screens.
