Black Panther fame Letitia Wright has given an update about Shuri’s potential return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Wright discussed the possibilities of her character’s return in the superhero franchise and Black Panther 3. When asked whether she had any talks with Marvel Studios regarding Shuri’s next MCU appearance, this is what she replied:
“No, I haven’t,” the actress said. “I will know as soon as you know.”
It seems unlikely that the fans witnessed the last of Letitia Wright’s Shuri in Wakanda Forever (2022). The character has also appeared in Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). In Wakanda Forever, she took the mantle of protector of Wakanda from her brother T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman).
In another recent interview, Wright revealed that Marvel Studios originally planned to include two Black Panthers in Wakanda Forever, T’Challa and Shuri. Unfortunately, this idea got buried after the demise of Boseman. This scenario forced helmer Ryan Coogler and co-writer Joe Robert Cole to rewrite the sequel’s story, focusing more on Shuri’s arc. As part of the re-writing procedure, Coogler also came up with some ideas about Black Panther 3. Executive producer, Nate Moore, has also confirmed that the director has shared his ideas for the third entry with Marvel Studios. Although, the studio has not yet officially greenlighted Black Panther 3.
This is what Nate Moore said about the possibility of Black Panther 3 in his recent interview with Collider:
“We really want to see how audiences receive the film, and I think Ryan’s really interested to see how the film plays before we decide. There are certainly ideas we’ve floated around of what a third film could be if we get to make it. But until the movie comes out, we’re a bit superstitious in that way. We don’t want to count our chickens, because you never know what’s going to happen.”
Wright also revealed that Coogler needed a break from his directional duties before coming up with ideas for Black Panther 3.
