In the Indian OTT and film industry, there are a few unforgettable characters/roles, whose relatively smaller screen time did not deter them from leaving a lasting impact on the audiences. One such memorable character was that of Bob Biswas from Sujoy Ghosh’s cult mystery thriller ‘Kahaani’, whose titular spin-off film starring Abhishek Bachchan is set to release on the Zee5 OTT platform on 3rd December.
Like Bob Biswas, there exist myriad OTT characters who deserve their own solo spin-off film or series. In this article, we have shortlisted five such memorable characters from OTT films and shows which should get their own film or series.
Kevin Thomas (Played by Fahadh Faasil in Amazon Prime Video Movie ‘C U Soon’)
Gifted actor Fahadh Faasil starred in this gripping computer screen thriller movie which came out last year. He played the role of a cyber security expert who uses his skills to help his cousin brother (Roshan Mathew) to find his mysterious lover who suddenly goes missing. The way the film was shot and the kind of depth Fahadh Faasil lent to the character would be a worthy subject for another film with perhaps a premise inspired by a similar Hollywood thriller ‘Searching’.
ACP Khan (Played by Vikas Kumar in Disney+ Hotstar Series ‘Aarya’)
Besides Sushmita Sen’s credible performance, Ram Madhvani’s gripping show ‘Aarya’ featured another interesting character ACP Khan, which was essayed by the talented Vikas Kumar, who was recently also seen in Netflix film ‘Dhamaka’. It would be interesting to see a film or series dedicated to the character of this honest and relentless cop and his escapades in bringing criminals to justice.
Dancing Rose (Played by Shabeer Kallarakkal in Amazon Prime Video Movie ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’)
When the brilliant boxing drama came out earlier this year, one character that was an instant hit besides Arya’s lead character Kabilan was that of Dancing Rose. Shabeer Kallarakkal had, with inimitable elan, essayed the role of a gifted former boxer called Dancing Rose who comes out of retirement for a boxing match with Kabilan – an underdog boxer from the Sarpatta boxing clan. Who wouldn’t like to see the character and his boxing matches during his heyday?
Raji (Played by Samantha Akkineni in Amazon Prime Video Series ‘The Family Man’ Season 2)
An interesting choice for a spin-off television series or a movie could revolve around Raji, a character adeptly portrayed by Samantha Akkineni in The Family Man Season 2. The audience was shown segments of the character’s backstory and her dark & disturbing past. This complex character merits a separate series that could delve into further details about how she became the tough and brutal Raji that the audience witnessed.
Hathoda Tyagi (Played by Abhishek Banerjee in Amazon Prime Video Series ‘Paatal Lok’)
Abhishek Banerjee, who had impressed us as Divyenndu Sharma’s loyal sidekick – Compounder in ‘Mirzapur’, had later played the main antagonist in Jaideep Ahlawat starrer hard-hitting crime drama ‘Paatal Lok’. The backstory of the dark character in ‘Paatal Lok’ could be explored in a separate spin-off series or film.
