Amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, well-known movie-maker Lionsgate is utilising its considerable library of well-loved movies to collect money for various charities engaged in Covid-19 welfare work.
Lionsgate is hosting online movie screenings on YouTube, through an event called LionsgateLIVE. The movies are free to watch, and viewers can donate their preferred sum of money to the Lionsgate charity kitty, which will then be sent to designated welfare organisations. There are to be four free movie screenings over four weeks.
Movies are hosted Friday evenings at 6 pm PST in the U.S. on the Fandango YouTube channel, and Saturday evenings in the U.K. on the Lionsgate YouTube channel. The American event began two weeks ago, and two movies have already been screened for free – The Hunger Games and Dirty Dancing. The next two movies to be screened are La La Land tonight, and John Wick on 8th May. There’s no word on whether the event will be extended beyond 8th May in the U.S.
The U.K. event begins this Saturday, with a screening of La La Land, followed by Eddie the Eagle (May 9), Bend It Like Beckham (May 16), and The Hunger Games (May 23).
The screenings also have celeb guests in attendance, who chat live with viewers on YouTube Live Chat.
