After giving us Indian original shows such as ‘Hiccups and Hookups’ helmed by Kunal Kohli starring Lara Dutta and Prateik Babbar and the college life-based show ‘Jugaadistan’, streaming service Lionsgate Play has now announced a one-of-its-kind gaming show titled ‘Gamer Log’.
Lionsgate Play’s new show ‘Gamer Log’ is being described as an uproarious, coming-of-age sitcom set against the yet untapped backdrop of competitive E-sports. ‘Gamer Log’ will ostensibly revolve around a group of professional gamers based in India and their various adventures and misadventures. The show has been created by Karmanya Ahuja, who has earlier lent her writing skills for the Voot Select whodunnit web series ‘The Raikar Case’.
Another exciting aspect about Lionsgate Play’s show ‘Gamer Log’ is that the project is being backed by RDP Pulp Fiction Entertainment which is led by the supremely talented ad filmmaker turned movie director Abhinay Deo of ‘Delhi Belly’ fame alongside Neeta Shah. Abhinay Deo will act as the showrunner for ‘Gamer Log’.
Besides helming the cult dark comedy crime film ‘Delhi Belly’, Abhinay Deo has previously directed Abhishek Bachchan and Kangana Ranaut starrer action thriller film ‘Game’, espionage thriller show ‘24’ starring Anil Kapoor, John Abraham starrer ‘Force 2’ and Irrfan Khan’s black comedy film ‘Blackmail’.
Coming back to Lionsgate’s latest Indian original ‘Gamer Log’, the show’s premise, which focuses on the unexplored E-Sports genre in India, suggests that the makers are targeting the huge gaming audience in India which boasts of more than 350 million online gamers as per last year’s figures.
It remains to be seen whether OTT platform Lionsgate Play will benefit from the first movers’ advantage by targeting the gaming audience in India through its new, coming-of-age and aptly titled show ‘Gamer Log’, which is essentially a story about friendship, hopes, dreams, and ambitions. Stay tuned to Binged for the show’s streaming date and other details.
