Lionsgate Will Be Bringing A ‘Monopoly’ Movie

2023 has been a year of change as makers started to explore different genres. Comic book movies have always been a means of success, but that changed in no time. It is now the era of video game adaptations, toy films, and board game films.

From Labyrinth to Ouija, and even Dungeons & Dragons, this genre is obviously not brand new but is rising to the pinnacle. But now, it is time for one of the most popular board games that has ever been made, holding a monopoly of its own.

Lionsgate has acquired the rights for a ‘Monopoly’ movie.

Lionsgate has finalized its acquisition of eOne, gaining 6,500 films and shows, along with film development rights to Hasbro’s Monopoly brand.

The Monopoly movie, in development since 2015, has seen involvement from directors like Tim Story and Ridley Scott, as well as actor Kevin Hart. With the acquisition complete, the project aims to progress under Lionsgate’s ownership, marking a new chapter for the iconic board game’s cinematic adaptation.

Created in 1935, Monopoly involves property buying and trading. While a true Monopoly film is yet to be made, a documentary, “Under the Boardwalk: The Monopoly Story,” narrated by Zachary Levi, was released in 2010.

And now, with the upcoming project, Monopoly will hopefully dive into the popular market of adaptations along with Lionsgate, which has definitely figured out the way to success.
