The infamous texting-suicide case of Conrad Roy is being adapted for a mini-series by Hulu and American screenwriter Lisa Cholodenko is joining Elle Fanning of ‘The Great’ fame for this true-crime drama The Girl from Plainville.
Cholodenko has already made a name for herself after directing the first three episodes of the Netflix drama series Unbelievable and HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge, which won her an Emmy. She has also directed 2010 feature film ‘The Kids Are All Right’ which has won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy and was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
Those who are unfamiliar with the premise, the texting-suicide case was about an American 18-years old teenager Conrad Roy who died by suicide. His 17-years old girlfriend Michelle Carter was accused of encouraging him in text messages to commit suicide. The case was the subject of a notable investigation and involuntary manslaughter trial in Massachusetts. Now, Hulu has picked up the same theme to produce The Girl from Plainville.
Apart from Cholodenko directing the series, The Girl from Plainville will reportedly be executive produced by Golden Globe nominee Liz Hannah and Patrick Macmanus actress Elle Fanning, herself and Brittany Kahan Ward. Consulting producer includes Erin Lee Carr, who has ‘I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth Vs. Michelle Carter‘ documentary in her kitty about the same case.
As per Hulu, The Girl from Plainville series will start production later this year and we can surely expect another fascinating drama from Lisa Cholodenko.
