Lubber Pandhu, a Tamil sports-comedy focusing on the games of cricket in villages, is set to be released on 20th September in cinemas. The movie is written and directed by Tamizharasan Pachamuthu and stars Harish Kalyan and Attakathi Dinesh in the lead roles, with Sanjana, Bala Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, Devadarshini, and Swasika Vijay in supporting roles. Prior to its release, the creators of the film get good news as the satellite and digital streaming rights for the film have been bagged by Star network and Disney+ Hotstar.

The movie is set in a typical Tamil village where local cricket leagues are organised regularly. The protagonist of the film Gethu (played by Attakathi) is a local cricket star who is considered better than MS Dhoni. Though he is quite old and has a daughter of marriageable age, still gives first priority to the sport. On the contrary Anbu (Harish) is a young upcoming player who is considered a great talent by his peers. He eventually falls in love with Gethu’s daughter and this leads to an ego clash between the two as to who is a better cricketer.

The film’s name literally means ‘rubber ball’ which is a sigil for village cricket in India. It denotes cricket to play the central role in the movie. The movie with cricket as its main plot, is a mix of comedy, drama and thrill. The trailer for the movie is already out and is attracting quite a buzz.
