MGM has dropped a new official trailer of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming sports rom-com, Challengers, starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor. The film guarantees a sultry love triangle set in the world of tennis.
The trio definitely turns up the heat in Challengers, which revolves around Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), a former tennis prodigy who was forced to retire from tennis after suffering a career-ending injury. As a result, she decides to become a professional coach. She later marries Art (Mike Faist), a Grand Slam champion. To break Art’s losing streak, Tashi enlists him in a challenger event. Soon, Art finds himself facing Patrick (Josh O’Connor), his former best friend and Tashi’s ex. Whoa! Things just got super spicy!
The project marks Guadagnino’s seventh feature directional. He is best known for his work on outstanding flicks like Call Me By Your Name (2017), Suspiria (2018), and Bones and All (2022). Currently, he is busy in the production of Queer, starring Daniel Craig. The film takes inspiration from Williams S. Burroughs’ 1985 novel of the same name. Apart from Craig, the movie has talents like Jason Schwartzman, Henry Zaga, and Lesley Manville.
MGM first announced Challengers back in February 2022. Apart from leading the upcoming film, Zendaya has also co-produced it alongside Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, and the director himself, Luca Guadagnino. The film benefits from Justin Kuritzkes’ script. It will arrive in theatres globally on April 26, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
