Lucy Liu Join Helen Mirren As The Villainous Goddess For Shazam 2!

The cast of Shazam 2 is getting bigger and better. If Helen Mirren joining the team as the villain wasn’t enough, the makers have now introduced a brand new villain to the film. Lucy Liu, Hollywood’s one of the most acclaimed actresses is the latest person on board the team of Shazam 2 and she will be going all out this time as she turns a literal goddess and not to mention, a villain for the movie.

As per the news, Lucy Liu will be essaying the role of Goddess Kalypso, who is a daughter of Atlas and is a Titan in Ancient Greek Mythology. She will appear as a sister to Helen Mirren’s character Hespera, who also is a titan and goddess according to mythology. These ancient greek characters don’t really have an obvious counterpart in DC Comics.

Shazam is said to derive powers from the Greek Gods, as it is mentioned in the name itself. The name is actually an acronym for Solomon, Hercules, Achilles, Zeus, Atlas and Mercury. Along with all of them, Shazam also derives powers from Atlas. This makes complete now when Kalypso and Hespera, the daughters of Atlas are involved.

Besides Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren, newcomer Rachel Zegler has also joined the team in an undisclosed role. Zachary Levi will be back to play the role of superhero Shazam, while Asher Angel returns as the kid Billy Batson. Ross Butler is also set to reprise his role from the first movie.

David F. Sandberg returns as the director for the movie. Henry Gayden is the man behind the screenplay for “Shazam: Fury of the Gods”. The movie is being produced by Peter Safran from The Safran Company. The movie is set for June 2023 release as of now. The shoot for the same will begin shortly in May, 2021.
