Gaumont is teaming up with author and screenwriter Annette Hess to create a miniseries by adapting her 2018 best-selling novel ‘The German House’. Gaumont is known for producing Narcos, Lupin, and Barbarian among other well-known projects.
The German house will be made by the German division of the studio and the story revolves around a young woman in the 1960s who is living in a post-World War 2 Frankfurt. Eva Bruhns (the pivotal character in the story) is a fun-loving 24-year-old woman whose life turns out to take a different turn as she becomes a translator for the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials. She has to fight off various obstacles such as societal and familial pressures to unravel the sinister truth about the past of her nation.
Hess has been in demand recently and also won a plethora of awards like a Grimme Award and German Television Award for her works. Hess has a very personal connection to this book as she feels like the main character has a resounding and unique yet liberating tale for all the viewers.
Annette Hess has worked as a freelance journalist and assistant director before she could launch a career as a successful screenwriter. She has also tried her hands on a lot of things and that goes to show you the talent that she possesses.
Gaumont themselves have not been far from the action as they some really exciting projects on hand with the second season of Lupin, the fifth season of F for Family, the sixth season of Narcos. Apart from this, the studio is also collaborating on several projects with other streaming platforms.
