The trailer of Maniratnam’s dream project ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’ is finally out after a long delay. At first, the trailer was supposed to be released at 6 p.m on the 6th of September. Then it was postponed to 9 p.m. Netizens eagerly waited for the release on the Twitter account and YouTube channel of Lyca Productions, the house releasing the film.
There was still no update. Finally, at 11:08 p.m the trailer was released. The trailer is getting a lot of views and even the responses are mixed but that does not justify the lack of planning and careless exploitation of the anticipation.
Even a wrong misleading link was posted with the poster of P.S1 from Lyca’s Twitter handle around 9:10, which was soon deleted.
There was no platform that would broadcast the massive trailer launch, where everybody from the cast was present along with superstars like Kamal Hassan and Rajinikanth. There was no means for the common man to witness this grandeur. Ponniyin Selvan 1 can be expected to be the one film that can cover the gap between art and commercial cinema.
Mani Ratnam and A.R Rahman’s musical is not only important but necessary as well. That makes the lack of organization and management quite unforgivable. That too from a giant like Lyca.
We can consider the example of K.G.F Chapter 2. The trailer was to be released on the 27th of March at 6:40 p.m. There was insane hype as usual. There was no delay and the production house absolutely knew how to make use of that hype.
Further mistakes and lack of planning can seriously affect the business of the film so Lyca seriously needs to work on the planning when it is dealing with such a big film.
