The sci-fi horror thriller movie ‘M3gan’, which was released in theatres earlier this month, turned out to be an instant hit amongst cinephiles. The film, produced by horror experts James Wan and Jason Blum, is now officially getting a sequel and has just got its title and release date. The ‘M3gan’ sequel has been titled ‘M3gan 2.0’ and the film is set for a theatrical release on 17th January 2025, that is, precisely two years from now.
The first film’s writer Akela Cooper will be returning to pen the script of the ‘M3gan’ sequel as well. Besides ‘M3gan’, she has previously lent her writing skills for James Wan’s 2021 horror flick ‘Malignant’.
For ‘M3gan 2.0’, two of its key actors Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will reprise their respective roles as Gemma and Cady.
The parent film ‘M3gan’ follows a gifted roboticist Gemma, who creates an artificially intelligent, life-sized robot doll – Model 3 Generative Android or simply M3gan. When Gemma is given the responsibility of her eight-year-old orphaned niece Cady, she decides to pair the doll M3gan with her niece owing to her hectic work life. But the decision turns out to be their worst nightmare when the doll becomes dangerously obsessed with her companion.
Besides grossing over $100 million at the box office, ‘M3gan’ also got a big thumbs up from critics and audiences alike. The film has got the ‘Certified Fresh’ status and currently holds an impressive 95% critics score on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes. And now, after its theatrical run, audiences are eager for the film to arrive on OTT platforms including India. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the same.
