Maara, probably the first big movie that will be released in the New Year on the 8th of January on Amazon Prime Video. It stars our beloved Madhavan aka Maddy and Shradhha Srinath as the leads. The movie is the Tamil remake of the hit Malayalam movie “Charlie” that put Dulquer Salman’s career in a whole new trajectory. It proved to be one of the breakthrough movies for the particular year. Maara is the debut feature film for Dhilip Kumar. Earlier he released and directed a short, independent film called “Kalki”.
Though it has been mentioned that it won’t be the exact replica of what DQ’s Charlie was, it still is loosely based around the same plot. The plot of putting together art and romance, the movie shows the journey of Paaru who finds Maara’s drawing book and sets out on a fun filled adventure to find the artist behind that book, Maara. It is those art pieces that lead her to fall in love as it shows Maara’s point of view of seeing life. a beautiful love story will unfold based on those drawings. As she goes from place to place to find him, she notices how he has seen that beauty.
Art has always been a way to show peoples a person’s point of view. The art can be anything; it can be someone’s paintings, someone’s writings, someone’s poems, stories, music, and songs, everything that one can think of as art. There’s no limit to an art form and it is also very true that a person can fall in love with the artist, after watching his/her piece of art.
In the 2019 Bollywood movie, “Notebook”, we also see the art form of writing being a source of communication between two people that are in a particular place at different times. The lead actress’ diary and her writings is what makes the actor’s character fall in love with her. Similarly, in the 2019 Telugu movie, “Dear Comrade” we see in the second half, how music becomes a medicine for healing and a source to fall back in love again.
Romance and art go hand in hand and there’s no denial in that, people as great as William Shakespeare has transformed art into romance and romance into art. When someone first falls in love with an art piece it is mostly because one can connect with that piece of art, whatever it may be. One feels as if someone else is resonating their feelings into a form of art or else producing something that can lift you up in the darkest of the days.
Maara will be one of those movies that will speak to you more through the pieces of art and one cannot deny why Paaru falls for a person she hasn’t met and yet falls for that person just by the artworks he has produced. This movie in itself is a piece of art.
