The legendary music composer AR Rahman has turned 55 today. Debuted in 1992 with Roja, he has given numerous musical hits. He is indeed the person who proved that music has no language.
His musicals are not only enjoyed in Tamil or Hindi but both. Famously called Mozart of Madras, his musicals are opulent and have a separate identity of his own.
Thus we find it unfair to compare his talent with anyone because the kind of music he creates is unexplored and untouched by any other human on the planet.
Nobody in the last three or four decades has had achievements equivalent to that of AR Rahman in the Indian music industry.
So we’re gonna recommend you top 5 musicals of AR Rahman that you can enjoy in both Hindi and Tamil.
Roja (1992)- Zee5
This was the debut film of AR Rahman. This Mani Ratnam directed film is one of the finest musicals ever made in India. The songs are so divine and soulful that they make you feel as if you are in some other world.
Roja Janeman/Naa Cheli Rojave was sung by Hariharan and SP Balasubramaniam in different versions.
Chinni Chinni Aasa/Chhoti Si Asha is still performed in every annual function of most schools. Such is the legacy and so is the greatness. By the way, you can enjoy this album in Telugu as well.
Dil Se…/Uyire (1998)- Netflix
Yet again it was a Mani Ratnam film but unlike Roja it was originally made in Hindi. Gulzar wrote the lyrics and Vairamuthu in Tamil.
Chaiyyan Chaiyyan became a global sensation and the whole India vibed on the Malayalam lyrics of Jiya Jale/Nenjinile Nenjinile. The two most legendary singers of India Lata Mangeshkar and S Janaki sung the Hindi and Tamil versions respectively.
The film is no less a masterpiece than its music, but honestly it’s music is it’s USP. You can also get lapped in the Telugu version of this album.
Taal/Thaalam (1999)- Zee5
This Subhash Ghai directed film is a pure musical. Aishwarya Rai played the character with extreme perfection but still it is the music that finds the way to our heart.
It was originally made in Hindi but you can enjoy the album in Tamil as well. Taal Se Taal Mila, Ishq Bina and all the songs are so engraved in the hearts of fans that it is impossible to forget.
Saathiya/Alai Payuthey- Prime Video
Saathiya was made in 2002 as the official remake of Tamil film Alai Payuthey(2002).
Both the albums feature some extremely divine and pleasant songs. Chupke Se/Snehithane is a highly sensuous song that is nothing less than intoxicating. The lyrics were penned by Gulzar and Varaimuthu that remain in our memories.
Jodhaa Akbar (2008)- Netflix
Not only was the film grand and aesthetic, the music was great enough to be remembered for decades.
It was also released in Tamil version. Javed Akhtar wrote highly relatable and appealing lyrics in Hindi. So did Na. Muthukumar in Tamil.
They are adorned by some extremely beautiful songs like Jashne Bahara/Muzhumathy and much more.
This musical is too grand to miss and needs all our attention.
