‘Mahaan’ Marks 2nd Anniversary; Hindi Version Status Unknown Yet

2 years ago, this father-son duo gave Tamil cinema the tale of ‘The Great One’… literally. ‘Mahaan,’ an action thriller film released on Amazon Prime Video on February 9, 2022, written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, celebrates its second anniversary of release today. Produced by S. S. Lalit Kumar under Seven Screen Studio, the movie features Vikram, Simran, Dhruv Vikram, and Bobby Simha in leading roles, with supporting roles played by Sananth, Vettai Muthukumar, and others.

Depicting the spotlight on Gandhi Mahaan’s journey from a happy-go-lucky man abandoned by his family to a liquor baron, the narrative weighs on his son, Dadabhai Naoroiji, an extremist Gandhian, seeking revenge on his father for breaching Gandhian principles.

With Santhosh Narayanan handling the music, Shreyaas Krishna managing cinematography, and Vivek Harshan in charge of editing, ‘Mahaan’ was lauded for its cast performances, particularly Vikram, as well as its music, direction, action sequences, and production values. The film, running for 3 hours, took the OTT route due to pandemic-related delays, and incomplete scenes were released separately on the film’s 100th day.

Not all fans were pleased with Amazon Prime Video’s tweet commemorating the second-year anniversary of “Mahaan.” Prior to its release, the producers announced the sale of Tamil satellite rights to Kalaignar TV and Hindi dubbing rights to Gold Mine.

Currently, ‘Mahaan’ is available in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada, titled ‘Maha Purusha’ in the latter. The release of ‘Mahaan’ in Hindi version is still a question from fans till date.
