Maharaj Officially Delayed After Stay Order

Maharaj is one of the most important projects Netflix India could possibly helm this year. Why are we saying this? Probably because it is in collaboration with Yash Raj Films and it also marks the debut of Aamir Khan’s son.

The movie directed by Siddarth P. Malhotra stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Junaid Khan, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari in important roles.

The film is based on real incidents of 1862 which is known as “Maharaj Libel Case”. Well, it was a case between a journalist and a religious leader in which the former won the case. It also established many laws that became important for the freedom of the press.

Needless to say, it unveiled a corrupt religious leader and there is a political angle attached to it. Due to this several groups like Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad have registered very strong opposition against the film. Probably that’s the reason Netflix India didn’t release any trailer or promotional post related to the film.

After the whole row with Annapoorani, the platform must be very cautious with everything. So, Netflix India has pulled the date of the film from their tile.

Why did this happen?

Since the film was in court, the Ahmedabad court has ordered a stay on the film till June 18.

The court order read:

“Today on Urgency few devotees and follower of Pushti margi Vaishav panth approached Gujarat High Court Vide SCA/8772/24 after hearing of at length Gujarat High Court issued notice to the broadcasting authority, Central board of Film Certification and Producer of the film “Maharaj” Yash Raj Film ,OTT Netflix and make it returnable on 18/6, till returnable date high court granted stay on broadcasting release on OTT and media of Movie MAHARAJ”

So, the film is definitely delayed till the 18th of June, let’s see what happens afterwards
