Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) finally commented on Maharashtra Government’s decision of lockdown-like restrictions to fight the pandemic.
The 2nd wave of pandemic has plundered the entire country. The think-tanks of the country are trying to find a way to end this but yet to be succeeded.
A lot of industries in the country have been affected due to the pandemic and the newly implemented lockdown protocols. Right now, one of the most affected states in the country is Maharashtra where the government announced the lockdown-like restrictions in the state to curb the transmission of COVID-19.
Now, with all the others, the biggest film industry in the world which is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra is extremely doomed because of the restrictions. There are several ongoing projects which came to an untimely halt due to these restrictions and it’s impacting the earnings of the cast and the crews of the industry.
Earlier yesterday, actor and senior joint secretary of Cine & TV artistes association (CINTAA), Amit Behl said, “About 70 per cent of actors are jobless and you know most of them are daily wage workers. There are quite a few shootings happening outside of Maharashtra but they are working with minimalistic cast and crew resulting in all those daily wage actors – who play roles of a watchman, a cop or a house help lose their job.”
Being concerned about the technicians of the film and TV industry and ongoing projects, Behl has also said that there are some actors who can afford to stay home but there are others who need the money to pay their bills. He added, “Just like other construction workers, even those working on film and tv sets are also construction workers and should be allowed to work. With the way things are going there is a fear the lockdown will get extended to the end of May so all incomplete sets and those standing in the studios of Maharashtra will need a touch-up and waterproof if not done before the monsoons will result in losses”.
There are almost 40 projects which have been moved out of Maharashtra and that is indeed, bad news for the filmmakers and the technicians of the industry. Reportedly a committee from the film and TV industry wrote to Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, to allow them to continue shooting inside the bio bubble with all the precautionary measures but yet to receive a reply from him.
The shootings moving out or getting halted with film not getting released theatrically and heading towards OTT release, it’s bound to impact hugely on every single person associated with Mumbai Film Industry. We can only hope that we reach the end of this deadly pandemic soon so that the industry can move towards normalization and every single cast and crew can return to work freely.
