Major Relief For All: Government Will NOT Censor OTT Platforms

The nation got an immense shock recently when it was declared that all the OTT platforms will be pulled under the I&B Ministry, meaning they will be having all sorts of right to censor, cut and even maybe cancel things that doesn’t fit right.

But in a recent interview, it has been revealed that the ministry in fact isn’t keen on controlling the OTT platforms and the digital News platforms. Though the ministry hasn’t totally been crisp and clear on what its plans are, it seems to be keeping the news intact for further statement releases.

While speaking on the topic recently, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javedkar informed that they are not interested in censoring or controlling any content of OTT platforms. He also stated that though there won’t be any censorship for the moment, and hence the duty will be given to the companies itself to review and release whatever they are going to put forward, like an act of self-regulation.

Although it has been implied that the Government is concerned about some content and hence wants to develop some monitoring techniques to help and keep an eye out on those.

From the statements made by the Minister on such an issue, it looks like though they might not be interested in censoring the work, they still are unhappy about certain content and hence want the companies to keep an eye on it.

There hasn’t been any further update on the censoring at the moment. Therefore, we need to look forward to what’s in store for these digital and OTT platforms.
