The understated but critically admired Malayalam movie ‘Vichitram’ was released in theatres last year in October. The mystery thriller movie with elements of supernatural / horror had garnered mostly positive feedback from the critics and audiences. And for those of you who had missed watching the film in cinemas, you can now watch it on a popular Indian OTT platform.
‘Vichitram’ is now streaming on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform in the original Malayalam language. You can watch the film with English subtitles. Surprisingly, the OTT release of ‘Vichitram’ has happened more than six months after its theatrical release, despite favourable reviews. Helmed by Achu Vijayan in his directorial debut, the basic plot of ‘Vichitram’ revolves around a woman named Jasmine and her family. After her brother’s death, Jasmine relocates to her childhood home along with her five sons with totally different personalities who are all going through a rough phase. But soon after the mother and sons start living in the old bungalow, the family begins to experience some strange and eerie incidents.
The movie features Shine Tom Chacko, Balu Varghese, Kani Kusruti, Ketaki Narayan, James Eliya, Lal and Jolly Chirayath in major roles as the family members living in the haunted house.
‘Vichitram’ can be described as a family drama film which is cleverly disguised as a haunted house mystery horror movie. It has a twist which will take you off guard. And it’s not a run-of-the-mill horror movie filled with only jump scares.
