A couple of weeks ago, a Malayalam multistarrer, ‘Theerppu‘ released its poster on multiple social media platforms which garnered some attention online. Now, according to the latest reports, this Malayalam feature film could be heading towards a direct-to-OTT release. And what’s more, this Prithviraj starrer could be making its way to Amazon Prime Video.
A Malayalam film heading for an Amazon Prime Video premiere is not anything new. But for a Malayalam film featuring a heavy cast including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, Mamukkoya, Siddique, Vijay Babu, Isha Talwar and Hannah Reji Koshy – this movie skipping theatres is a little surprising. Especially when theatres in Kerala have recently reopened after being closed for nearly 6 months.
A lot of Malayalam movies have been trying to get their films released in a theatre as soon as possible, but it seems that the filmmakers behind ‘Theerppu’ will be opting for an OTT release. While we cannot confirm this since it is not official yet – we feel that this could be happening so that the Malayalam filmmakers and actors involved can capitalise on the sudden boom in popularity Malayalam films have been enjoying on a National scale.
Murali Gopi, the screenwriter behind the super hit film, ‘Lucifer’ will be scripting this feature film and acting in it also. Murali will be producing the film as well alongside Vijay Babu and Rathish Ambat. Rathish Ambat will also be directing this movie. Rathish Ambat had worked with Murali Gopi before, on his directorial debut ‘Kammara Sambhavam’, which went on to become a hit film.
