Speaking of Bhonsle, it’s first look was launched at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. It premiered at ‘A Window on Asian Cinema’ section of the 2018 Busan International Film Festival. This film was screened at multiple other occasions like non-competitive India Story section at the MAMI Film Festival, the 2018 Dharamshala International Film Festival, the 2019 International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Bengaluru International Film Festival and the Singapore South Asian film festival. It won the Best Screenplay and Best Director Award at the Asian Film Festival Barcelona.
Bhonsle is the story of a police constable Ganpat Bhonsle (Manoj Bajpayee), who retires at the age of 60 and lives alone. His locality is place of constant tussle between the Marathis and the migrant Biharis. The story is about how Bhonsle tries to help migrants in Maharashtra fight their battles with the local politicians. At a time when politicians are using violence to get rid of Bihar migrants from Maharashtra, a dying Maharashtrian cop, Bhonsle (Manoj Bajpayee), befriends a 23-year-old Bihari Sita and her brother. Manoj Bajpayee is also the co-producer of this 2018 hindi film.
